Unknown gunmen have murdered in cold blood a young man transiting on a motorcycle around the Ndele Community area of the East-West road in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State.
This occurred just about 24 hours after Chief Tom Aliezi, the Executive Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area Council, disbanded the local vigilante groups that were providing security within the communities of the LGA.
It was gathered that the LG boss had suspended operations of the local vigilante OSPAC in every community of the Local Government Council, following alleged reports of unprofessionalism and crimes committed by the security network.
However, it was learned that hoodlums had taken advantage of the decision to resume hostility and cause mayhem in that axis.
According to a source intimate to the incident, yesterday said that the victim was from Ibaa Community and was traveling to Elele Alimini in the same Area Council before the unknown criminals ambushed and killed him.
The source who pleaded anonymity stated that the assailants equally made away with all valuables and an undisclosed amount of money belonging to the deceased victim.
One Wisdom, the victim’s relative, who took to his Facebook page to announce the ugly incident, revealed the name of the victim as Chikweri Nmegbu, noting that the late victim was from Ogbelegba axis of Ibaa Community.
“Chikweri Nmegbu, a cousin of mine was gruesomely murdered along East-West Road while he was journeying from Rumuji to Elele Alimini where he resides with his family. He was found to be shot in one of his eyes, two legs, and abdomen.
“The Police officers who came to report about the incident to the family said they were able to identify his community when they looked through the documents lying by his corpse,” Wisdom said.
The motorcycle which he rode on and other valuables including money were all carted away by the hooligans.
“The members of Nmegbu’s family, Ogbelegba village, and indeed the entire Uvuahu clan are saddened to hear about the callous manner in which this harmless young man was killed,” he added.
He called on relevant authorities to swiftly investigate the incident and bring the killers of Chikweri to face the wrath of the law.
Meanwhile, when contacted, SP Nnamdi Omoni, the River State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, said, police have not received any formal report on the development as of the time of filing this report.
