Unidentified armed men have kidnapped Bashir Bape, the Legislator Representing the Nguroje constituency in the Taraba State House of Assembly.
The Legislator was abducted in his residence in Jalingo, the State capital on Tuesday night.
According to Mr. Bape’s family member, “The gunmen who came in numbers overpowered the vigilantes guarding the house and went straight to his sleeping room.
‘’They whisked him away, and on leaving the scene, they shot into the air to scare us.”
People who witnessed the incident said the unknown gunmen rode to the area in a convoy of motorcycles at about 1:00 a.m.
Mr. Bape’s neighbor who pleaded anonymity said, “Immediately they entered, they seized all handsets belonging to the people in the compound.
“They then dragged the member to their motorcycles and whisked him away without saying anything.”
The Public Relations Officer Taraba State Police Command was not immediately available for comment on the incident at the time of filing this report because his phone number was not reachable.
This is making it the second time a member of the Taraba State House of Assembly was abducted by unidentified armed men in recent years.
On December 30, 2017, Hosea Ibi, the Legislator Representing Takum 1 Constituency, was kidnapped in Takum.
Mr. Ibi was abducted at gunpoint and whisked away by his abductors on a motorcycle, and his lifeless body was found along the Takum – Kashimbilla road, after weeks of search and ransom payment.
