Unknown armed men kill one, kidnap 20 travelers in Nasarawa

Unidentified gunmen have slain former Education Secretary in Nasarawa Local Government Council, Salihu Ibrahim, and abducted 20 passengers along Buga/Gwari/Gadabuke/Toto route in Toto Area Council of Nasarawa State.

It was gathered that the unfortunate incident, occurred on Monday afternoon.

According to an eyewitness, the former Education Secretary was transiting to Toto Area Council from Nasarawa State when he was shot dead by the gunmen.

Abdullahi Baba, the Secretary of Gadabuke Emirate Council, disclosed that the gunmen, in their numbers, invaded the metropolis and attacked 3 (three) vehicles plying the road and went away with passengers in commercial vehicles to the nearby bush.

Ibrahim, who was equally heading alongside his friend in a private vehicle, was also whisked away with others. But his lifeless body was later discovered in a bush close by.

ASP Ramhan Nansel, the Nasarawa State Command Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), who confirmed the incident yesterday, claimed to be ignorant of the abduction of any passenger.

“Around 13:50 hours, we received information that a vehicle was abandoned at Buga Gwari, Gadabuke, Toto Council. We sent our men to the scene and they recovered a Rover Saloon car with registration number NTT 265AA. Two mobile phones were discovered inside the vehicle, but the whereabouts of the occupants were not known,” said Nansel. ”

“Somebody, however, recognized the vehicle that belonged to his brother who left Nasarawa for Gadabuke yesterday. So the vehicle was kept at the station.”

Nansel also revealed that the State Commissioner of Police directed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Toto to mobilize his men to commence combing the bushes.

He disclosed that when anti-kidnapping and police mobile force was mobilized along with some hunters and vigilante, they recovered a corpse, adding that investigation was still ongoing.
