Unidentified gunmen suspected to be assassins have killed no fewer than three persons in Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area Council of Anambra.
According to reports, the victims were said to be in a meeting within the appurtenances of the community town hall when the gunmen believed to be assassins, numbering about five, invaded the premises.
It was gathered that three of the gun- welding young men walked straight to each of their targeted victims and shot them down at a very close range, which triggered a stampede as everybody within the environment scampered for safety.
A resident of the area, who pleaded anonymity, described the incident as a shocking and unfortunate one.
“What happened here this afternoon took everybody by surprise and as you can see everybody is in fear. The assassins planned this operation very well that they killed all their targets.
“Their corpses are still lying there and nobody is ready to near the scene, even the police have not come,” he said.
He stated that two of the deceased were from the community while the other man was from the neighboring community, Umuoji.
The lifeless bodies of the victims were still lying motionlessly at the scene of the incident as at the time of filing this report.
Every effort to reach Chief Innocent Mbagha, President General of Nkpor community; and Haruna Mohammed, the Anambra State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, for reactions over the unfortunate incident as at press time proved abortive.
