Above, historic photo of Azerbaijani Jewish cemetery highlights the enduring presence of the Jewish community in Azerbaijan.
The Jewish religious community in Ganja issued a statement regarding the rocket attack from Armenia to Ganja and injuries among the civilians.
“As a Jewish religious community, on behalf of our compatriots living in Ganja, we strongly condemn the acts of military aggression and provocation committed by Armenia” the statement noted. It is unacceptable for the Armenian armed forces to shell heavy artillery at the areas where the Azerbaijani population lives. This contradicts all norms and principles of international humanitarian law.
As it is known, along with Naftalan, Aghdam, Terter, Dashkesan, Goygol and Goranboy, the city of Ganja, located far from the combat zone, is also subjected to heavy artillery fire from Armenia. As a result of the shelling of Ganja by the Armenians, one person died, 35 civilians were wounded, including 6 children and one representative of another ethnic group, the infrastructure of the city was seriously damaged.
It should be noted that Armenia has repeatedly tried to sow the seeds of enmity between the peoples living in Azerbaijan, but to no avail. Their provocations, crimes against the civilian population, the martyrs we have had in the war zones further strengthen the bonds of unity and brotherhood between us.
We, the Jewish religious community, express our concern about the attacks by Armenians on the civilian population and call on the international community to abandon the policy of double standards and put the necessary pressure on Armenia, the aggressor country. We fully support the position and activities of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
