Unidentified armed men reportedly ambushed Tor-Donga, a village in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area Council of Benue State, killing scores while many were seriously wounded on Tuesday morning.
According to sources, there is tension, panic, and confusion in the community as both farming and other economic activities in the area came to an abrupt halt due to panic among residents.
The Police Spokesman in the state, DSP Anene Sewuese Catherine, when contacted revealed that the command was yet to receive any formal report about the ugly development.
“I have received several calls on that but the command can’t confirm it now. We are yet to get the report,” she said.
Just a few days ago, the older brother of former Governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam, Dr. Terkura Suswam was shot and killed by unknown gunmen in the same Sankera area of the state.
Samuel Ortom, the Executive Governor of Benue State reacting to the death of Terkura, declared absolute war on all criminal elements tormenting the state.
Meanwhile, there have been speculations that the killings within the area recently could be linked to the killing of Terwase Akwaza popularly known as Gana, a gang kingpin who was declared wanted by the state government but was later killed by the troops of the Nigerian Military sometime last year.
