Police Nab teenager, 3 Others Over the Murder of Bauchi Legislator

Bauchi State Command of the Nigerian Police Force has apprehended an 18-year-old boy together with two others over the gruesome murder of Honourable Musa Mante Baraza, a member of the State House of Assembly, representing Dass State Constituency.

The slain legislator was killed in cold blood in his residence in Dass, the headquarters of Dass Local Government Area of Bauchi State, with his two wives and daughter abducted on August 13, 2020.

The lawmaker’s wives and daughter, a year-old, were later released after spending three days with their captors.

According to reports from DAILY POST, Senator Bala Mohammed, the State Governor had, while receiving the Catholic Bishop of Bauchi Diocese, The Most Reverend Bishop Hilary Dachelem, who paid him a courtesy visit at the Bauchi Government House, last month disclosed that the suspected murderers of the late legislator and those who abducted his elder brother on March 25, 2020, had been nabbed by the Police.

The Governor said that the suspects were being investigated by the police to discover their levels of guilt before being brought to face justice.

However, DSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, the State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), in a statement he signed and made available to newsmen on Friday night, revealed the identities of the suspected killers.

DSP Wakil enlisted the suspects’ names to include: Abdulrazak Mohammed (29); Abdulmumini Umar (29); Yusuf Mohammed (18) and Mas’ud Hassan (22), were arrested on 14th November 2020 by the police.

He said, “On 14/11/2020 at about 0104hrs, one Abdulrazak Mohammed ‘m’ aged 29 years Abdulmumini Umar ‘m’ 29 years, Yusuf Mohammed ‘m’ aged 18 years and Mas’ud Hassan ‘m’ aged 22 years all of Bauchi town, were arrested in connection to the case of the gruesome killing of Hon. Musa Mantai Baraza ‘m’ member representing Dass Constituency, Dass LGA, Bauchi State, where his two wives and one daughter named; (1) Rashida mal. Musa ‘f’ aged 35 years (2) Rahina Mal. Musa ‘f’ aged 30 years and (3) Khausar Mal. Musa ‘f’ aged 18 months were kidnapped and taken to an unknown destination.

“The suspects robbed him of eight different phones all valued at Three Hundred Thousand Naira (N300,000:00k) and thereafter shot him to death.

“On receipt of the report, a joint operation between IRT and Command detectives swung into action, rescued the victims, and arrested the above-mentioned suspects.

“During the investigation, Hon. Musa’s phone Tecno handset with MTN sim card was recovered in their possession.

“Exhibits recovered are one Tecno Y2; one itel keypad; one Tecno keypad; one tambo P2470 keypad;
One Tecno keypad with MTN sim card,” Wakil, opined.

The Deputy Superintendent of Police – DSP, disclosed that investigation is still in progress, after which the suspects will be charged to court for prosecution and possible conviction, adding that CP Lawan Tanko Jimeta, the State Commissioner of Police, had directed that all the suspects be profiled and charged to court with immediate effect.
