Men of the Nigerian Police Force Cross River State Command has successfully bumped a three man robbery squad and recovered a 2018 model of Toyota Corolla worth over 8 million Nigerian nairas in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

It was gathered that the operation which was carried out by Anti Kidnapping/Cultism Team, AKCT, tracked the gang from Calabar to Uyo in Akwa Ibom State where they were eventually trapped and arrested after ripping off their victim’s car and belongings in his house.

According to reports, the hoodlums had before their arrest put up the car which is currently worth between 7.5 million to 8 million Nigerian naira for sale, for just 1 million Nigerian nairas at a Car stand in Uyo Akwa Ibom state before the security agency nabbed three members of the gang.

Abubakar Jimoh, the Cross River State Police Commissioner when addressing newsmen in Calabar on Tuesday, said they will not give up on fighting criminal activities in the State until hooligans vacate in a hot sweat as the police were ready to purge the state of all forms of crime, criminality and security challenges.

CP Jimoh in his words said, “in line with our open-door policy as it concerns information sharing by giving the people feedback as well as carrying the people of Cross River State along in our progress and achievement, we have just apprehended a notorious robbery gang who specializes in robbing filling stations and snatching cars.

“After robbing their victim in Calabar, they took his 2018 Toyota Corolla which cost over 8 million to a car stand at Uyo without knowing that we were tracking them.

“They were intercepted at about 12: 00 midnight, Tuesday in synergy with our people in Akwa Ibom, we arrested them and brought them back to Calabar and they all confessed to the crime and will be charged to court immediately the investigation is concluded,” he said.

The Commissioner further revealed that a group of cultists who also spearheaded village wars around Ekori in Yakurr Local Government Council was apprehended by the Nigerian Police Force Ekori division.

He said, “We are all out to deal with criminals, no stone shall be left unturned, all criminals have heard the position of the government and we are here to enforce that by ensuring that CrossRiverians sleep with their two eyes closed.

“Our men are highly motivated and their morale has been boosted, all criminal elements in the state should take note that we have both plain clothe and uniform policemen, especially during this Yuletide to ensure there is peace in Cross River,” he stated.

A 28-year-old Francis Archbong, one of the suspects, said they didn’t know the value of the car, that was why they wanted to dispose of the car for 1 million nairas, a very cheaper rate comparing to the cost.

“I used to be a carpenter before going into driving, but I didn’t know the value of the car, but we needed cash urgently. I used to be a carpenter, but I became a driver to make quick cash.

“The car was handed over to me by Etete. So, I drove it to Akwa Ibom to sell it there, but to tell you the truth I didn’t know the car is up to 8 million nairas; if I knew I won’t place it at 1 million nairas,” said the hooligan.

Etim James Etim aged 35, Peter aged 32, China Justice aged 44, and Obaseoyi Ibor aged 38 years are members of the gang also arrested. They will soon be charged to court after investigations for proper prosecution.
