Police Dislodge Armed Robbery Syndicate In Awka Ring Road

The Anambra Police Command on Saturday ended the nightmare of motorists on Isiagu-Awka ring road by robbers following the dislodgment of armed robbery syndicate operating along that road, and killing one of them.

According to the Police Spokesman Haruna Mohammed, at 9 pm on Friday, the police received a distress call that suspected armed robbers blocked the Ring road and were robbing three occupants of a black Accura legend Car with Lagos Registration number SMK878GL of their valuables at gunpoint.

Following this police operatives attached to the Command’s Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS),Central Police Station, Awka and local vigilante quickly responded and rushed to the scene.

There was a shoot out as the suspected armed robbers sighted the police and both engaged in a fierce gun battle forcing the hoodlums to abandon the robbery operation and scamper into the bush for safety.

However, a member of the gang was fatally injured during the gun duel, and he died before he could reach the hospital.

On searching him, the police recovered two firearms, ammunition,three assorted handsets snatched from the victims and other incriminating items.

The bush was combed in a thorough search, leading to the recovery of another fabricated pistol with four rounds of 9mm life ammunition while effort is being intensified to catch other fleeing suspects believed to have sustained gunshots during the encounter.

The Command has then asked members of the public to report any person with bullet injuries to the nearest Police station to enable the Command ascertain the circumstances surrounding the injury.

The command also solicited for co-operation with members of the public while assuring Anambra people of safety during the ember months.
