Seven suspects responsible for a bullion van robbery attack foiled by men of the Nigerian Police in Ebonyi State on July 29, 2020 were on Wednesday paraded.

The suspects, Sunday Soyemi, Alfred Robinson, Ayeni Samuel, Emeka Harrison, Emeka Ilo, Abuchi Elijah, and Ibaniforio Ekene, had perfected plans to rob a fully loaded bullion van of one of the commercial banks commuting money from Enugu to Abakaliki, Ebonyi State capital, but their plans crippled as gallant men of Nigerian police force confronted them in a gun battle until the hoodlums retreated.

They carried out surveillance around the movement of the bullion van for two weeks, and deployed two stolen vehicles – a Lexus 350 SUV and a Toyota Forerunner for the operation, which they executed between Ishielu and Ohaukwu local governments’ axis of the state.

Unfortunately, four Officers of the Nigerian police force lost their lives during the gun battle because of expertise of the gangsters in handling firearms, and due to the fact that they attacked with assorted weapons.

“That operation was carried out by me and some of my friends at Ebonyi State. We took two weeks to monitor the Bullion Van, after the two weeks we carried out the operation,” said Soyem, 46, the gang leader.

The Force Public Relations Officers, DCP Frank Mba, while parading the suspects, said after the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu, NPM, mni, ordered a massive manhunt for the suspects, the Force Intelligence Response Team (IRT) successfully apprehended them.

Items recovered from them include: 136 rounds of GPMG ammunition, Six Ak 47 Rifles, 61 AK 47 Magazines, five K2 magazines, 1620 rounds of live AK 47 ammunition, two sets of army camouflage, assorted charms, and other house breaking equipment were recovered from the suspects.
