Unknown gunmen suspected to be bandits have kidnapped Alhaji Kabir Umar, the village head of the Raddah community in Charanchi Local Government Area Council of Katsina State.

The armed men also wounded Alhaji Umar’s younger brother simply identified as Aminu on the thigh.

Currently, the injured Aminu is receiving treatment in a Katsina hospital.

Eyewitnesses reported that the unidentified gunmen invaded the community in their large numbers around 2:00 am on Friday shooting sporadically, and operated for hours before they whisked away from the community leader.

A source within the community said, “the bandits came in their numbers on motorcycle shooting sporadically. They went to the residence of the village head, Kabir Umar where they shot his younger brother, Aminu Umar before Kidnapping him (the village head).

“Aminu was shot on his leg and has been taken to Katsina Orthopedic hospital where the bullet will be removed,” he added.

However, the residents could not say specifically the number of items stolen by the gunmen nor the losses incurred as a result of the inferno.

According to another resident who pleaded anonymity, “They abducted our village head and wounded his younger brother on the thigh. But we cannot say exactly the number of items stolen or taken along with them as they kept on shooting during the operation and also while they were leaving the community.”

The source added that the village head was taken to an unknown destination, and as of Friday morning, the kidnappers are yet to make any communication with the immediate family nor the community.

SP Gambo Isah, the Katsina State Police Command Public Relations Officer confirmed the unfortunate incident when contacted but he did not give details of the incident.

SP Isah said, “Yes, the incident happened. No arrest has been made.”
