Suspected armed bandits have slain two persons and abducted many others in Garawa village, Giwa Local Government Area Council of Kaduna State.
Samuel Aruwan, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, disclosed this in a statement yesterday.
Aruwan stated that investigations were ongoing into the incidents to ascertain what really played out, as security agencies intensify patrols in the Local Government Council.
The Commissioner said, “Armed bandits raided Doka village of Fatika District in the same local government and abducted some residents. In Angwan Dan Yaya village, Alhaji Suleiman Audu was shot dead by the bandits.
“Governor Nasir el-Rufai has expressed sadness at the reports, and prayed for the repose of the souls of the slain while sending his condolences to their families.”
He equally went ahead to state that several bandits were neutralised in air strikes across Birnin Gwari, Giwa, Igabi and Chikun councils of Kaduna State.
In another development, the combined Forces of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), 72 Special Forces Battalion, 93 Battalion and Mobile Policemen from Takum have apprehended 17 bandits in connection to the late Terwase Akwaza (alias Gana) in their different hideouts in Katsina Ala Council of Benue State.
The hooligans had reportedly abducted 23 people of Taraba State along Wukari/Takum road on January 27, 2021.
Addressing newsmen in Makurdi yesterday, the Security Adviser to Governor, Col. Paul Hemba (rtd.), said during the operation, 19 of 23 kidnapped persons were rescued.
