Suspected bandits have kidnapped no fewer than 50 persons in a recent invasion of the Bassa community in Shiroro Local Government Area Council of Niger State.
According to reports, the unfortunate incident occurred when bandits reportedly swooped the community in large numbers on motorcycles in the early hours of Thursday.
The people were said to be preparing to set out for the day when their activities were fractured by the bandits causing them to run into the forest, scampering for safety.
Sani Abubakar Kokki, the Co-convener Concerned Shiroro Youths, confirmed the attack describing the hooligans as terrorists.
He, however, said that the number of abducted persons is not known yet but said they were numerous people whisked away by the criminals.
Kokki also disclosed that on Tuesday, some other communities in Bassa/Kokki were ambushed and a whole lot of losses were incurred.
He said that Shiroro Local Government Area Council is in dire need of help as they continue to live at the mercy of the criminal elements.
When contacted, Abiodun Wasiu, the Niger State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, said he will get back to the Reporter when he has details about the incident. The PPRO was yet to return the call as of the time of filing this report.
