Just one week after unknown gunmen attacked police officers on duty who claimed four lives of their men, another set of policemen have reportedly been ambushed and killed on Wednesday morning at two separate checkpoints in Obubra Local Government Area Council, Cross River State.
Eyewitnesses told newsmen that arms belonging to the slain police officers were carted away by the suspected criminals who were heard ‘chanting IPOB songs’ during the unfortunate events.
Sources said the early morning raid happened at Ofotura where two policemen were shot and killed while four other cop officers were gruesomely murdered at Oyadama checkpoint in the same Obubra Local Government.
Also, a military officer is reportedly shot in the hand but is believed to have survived the gunshot wound and currently receiving treatment in the hospital.
Irene Ugbo, the Cross River State Police Command’s PRO, as at the time of filing this report, said they are yet to receive such a report from the Obubra Police Division.
Meanwhile, the Police Community Relations Committee in the state has bemoaned and condemned the incessant killing of policemen in the state recently.
David Amieye, the PCRC Chairman in an interview with correspondence confirmed the ugly incident.
He beckoned on the state commissioner of police not to be discouraged in the fight against criminals by the continuous attack on his men.
Amieye called on the general public to volunteer valuable information to the police to assist her to find and apprehend those behind the barbaric act against the security agency.
Within the last one week, ten policemen have been killed in Cross River State at the point of carrying out their duties.
