Unknown gunmen on Friday night invaded a police station in Onueke Ezza, Ezza South Local Government Area Council, Ebonyi State, killing three police officers on duty.
In the gruesome attack on the Police station, two other policemen sustained various degrees of bullet wounds.
It was gathered that the unfortunate slain officers involved two male inspectors and a policewoman.
The hoodlums reportedly carted away two AK 47 machine rifles from the police station.
Loveth Odah, the Police Public Relations Officer Ebonyi State Command, confirmed the ugly incident.
She revealed that the corpses of the murdered police officers had been deposited in a morgue while the two who sustained bullet wounds were receiving treatment in the hospital.
Odah urged the general public to provide the police with useful information that could lead to the apprehension of the hooligans behind the attack.
In her words, the PPRO said, “Yes, three policemen were killed in the attack. We don’t know the identity of the attackers yet, and we are calling on the general public to provide information to the police to hunt down the perpetrators of this heinous crime.”
Philip Maku, the Ebonyi State Commissioner of Police, reportedly visited the Onueke Police Station on Saturday morning to ascertain the level of damages done by the hoodlums to the security outfit.
He was reported to be visibly angry, and therefore, have vowed to fish out the perpetrators of the sacrilegious act and bring them to book.
The Commissioner for Internal Security in the state, Stanley Okoro Emegha, while reacting to the inferno, said the government was not happy with the unfortunate development.
Mr. Okoro Emegha gave security agencies 48 hours to brief the government on how such evil could have happened without any prior intelligence to forestall its occurrence.
