Gunmen in Ondo kidnap traveler, kill the driver

Gunmen have reportedly kidnapped an unknown traveler and killed his driver on Thursday along lse/lsua Akoko Federal Highway in Ondo state.

Razak Rauf, the Police Area Commander for lkare-Akoko, confirmed this ugly situation to newsmen on Thursday night in an interview.

Rauf said that the lifeless body of the deceased driver had been recovered and deposited at the morgue of the State Specialist Hospital in Ikare.

He assured that the State Police Command would soon apprehend the perpetrators and set free the kidnapped traveler.

According to him, detectives are already combing the forest to fish out the criminal elements and bring them to the book.

Dr. Ayodele Ogunlade, the Chief Medical Director of Ikare state specialist hospital Dr. Ayodele Ogunlade confirmed that police brought a corpse of the slain driver to the hospital.

Sources within the locality revealed that the driver was shot at a very close range and he died on the spot when he was trying to escape from the attack against them by the kidnappers on the Highway.

The kidnappers allegedly whisked the traveler away into the forest after they discovered that the driver was dead already.

It was gathered that the kidnappers had contacted the family of the victim for ransom despite killing the driver during the operation.

Recalled that an inspector of police attached to Isua Akoko divisional police station was shot dead by unidentified gunmen at the same spot and his service gun was snatched during the unfortunate incident.
