Suspected members of the dreaded Boko Haram terrorists have raided and killed no fewer than three persons at the checkpoint along Maiduguri / Gubio Highway on Sunday afternoon, sources said.
It was gathered that the insurgents swooped a joint checkpoint between Chabol and Magumeri at about 12:30 in the afternoon, killing in cold blood two police officers and one member of Civilian Joint Task Force CJTF.
A security source revealed that the attackers burnt down one utility vehicle and made away with another after they transposed the security personnel positioned at the joint checkpoint.
The security said, “The incident occurred at the outskirts of Magumeri and Chabol, we have reported that two police officers and a member of CJTf have lost their lives in the ambush.”
Bakura Aliyu, a top CJTF member, equally confirmed to newsmen that the insurgents stationed three gun trucks and then shooting at the military base located in that area.
“We lost three people including one of our members and policemen, they came to attack a joint checkpoint, burnt a Hilux vehicle, and went away with another,” said Bakura.
It was also said that the hoodlums made away with some ammunition.
This unfortunate incident happened on the same day the newly appointed service chiefs arrived in Maiduguri for a meeting on the best way to fight and wipe away the age-long insurgency in the Northeast, Nigeria.
