Bandits kill policeman, abduct 5, & steal cattle in Niger

Unknown gunmen suspected to be bandits have killed a police officer and abducted five others in attacks in Shiroro and Rafi local governments of Niger State.

In the attack, one person was wounded at Chukuba community in Shiroro Local Government Council, while Several cattle were stolen by the criminals.

During the incident, bandits invaded the community, leaving the residents bamboozled and devastated.

Suleiman Chukuba, the Chairman of Shiroro Local Government, confirmed the unfortunate incident during a mobile phone interview with a journalist.

He appealed to the Government of the Federation to assist the Local Government Council in cubbing the high spate of insecurity in the area. Another robbery attack happened in Rafi Local Government during which five persons were kidnapped.

The bandits reportedly raided Rigo village in Rafi Local Government in their usual style of riding motorcycles and shooting sporadically at innocent residents

At the end of the invasion, which sources said lasted for about two hours, five people were reportedly abducted.

When quizzed to comment on the incident, ASP Wasiu Abiodun, the Niger State Police Command Public Relations Officer, said he would get back with information after his findings.
