Persons numbering 20, consisting of males, including a traditional ruler, Malam Falalu Galadima, have been abducted by unknown gunmen suspected to be bandits in Katsina State.
It was gathered that the communities – Ungwar Mato, Gamji and another all in Faskari Local Government were ambushed by the gunmen who raided the whole area on Tuesday for about three hours.
According to reports, the bandits, trekked down to the Gamji village, unlike their precedent attacks in which they came on motorcycles.
One of the residents of the affected community, who pleaded anonymity for safety reasons, said he ran into the bush when the hoodlums came.
He disclosed to newsmen that the robbers stormed the village around 10 pm on Tuesday night shooting on the villagers sporadically, before they abducted and whisked away the village head and 25 others.
He explained, “No one can tell exactly the number of the people they abducted; we all know that they abducted the village Head and many others.
“We checked from house-to-house this morning and found out that 25 of our people are in their custody now,” said another villager who spoke without mentioning his name for security reasons.
“They came like people who migrated from somewhere else, heavily armed and covered their faces,” he added.
“Two of my younger brothers are in their custody now; one of them is a law student in Yenagoa Law School while the other one is a graduate of Civil Engineering from Bayero University Kano,” he said, expressing sorrow.
He narrated that there was no presence of security operatives in the community during the pogrom, stressing that the community lies between Dandume and Sabuwa Local Government Council of the State.
The second source who witnessed the attack recounted that the criminals raided the village for about three hours without any interruption.
He said, “They were in the village from 10 pm up to 1 am and did not leave because there was no pressure from the security agents.”
“We reported the issue to the military checkpoint, but they haven’t responded at all.”
According to sources at Unguwar Mato, the gangsters, abducted three people including two women and carted away drugs and food stuffs.
A source said this occurred just few hours after the terrorist group bumped into Bilbis village of Faskari Local Government. They murdered four persons in cold blood, injured an undisclosed number of persons and carted away livestocks.
