Unidentified gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted the wife and son of Nigeria’s former vice president – Alhaji Atiku Abubakar security aide.
It was believed that the security detail, a police officer, was the major target of the kidnappers, but when the gangsters could not find him, they abducted his wife and son in exchange for him.
The inferno occurred on Monday in Yolde-Pate community, Yola, Adamawa State, when the officer was believed to be around after coming into town with Atiku for the weekend according to reports on Wednesday.
A source said, “The kidnappers believed that the officer, being close to Atiku, would have money, so they went for him; they took his wife and son when they did not find him”.
Also, Hammantukur Yettisuri, an elder brother of the Adamawa State House of Assembly Majority Leader, was kidnapped within the same period in the Jada Mbulo Area of the State by unknown gunmen.
A source who pleaded anonymity disclosed to newsmen that the gunmen entered into the community around 2 am and shot into the air before invading the lawmaker’s brother’s house.
“They got away with the man, shouting that they would not return him unless the family paid N50m,” he stated.
When contacted over the incident, DSP Suleiman Nguroje, the Adamawa State Police Command’s Spokesman, confirmed the two abductions, including the aid to Alhaji Atiku being a police officer, but he did not give names.
He gave the assurance that the police would do everything to free the abducted people and bring the gunmen to book.
