Two police officers were feared dead when unidentified gunmen ambushed Obosi Police Station in the early hours of Thursday, Idemili North Local Government Area Council of Anambra State.
The unfortunate incident took place barely a few hours after a newly deployed Commissioner of Police, Mr. Chris Owolabi, assumed duty in the state.
The hoodlums, who stormed the station in large numbers, razed down the station, killed two police officers and set free all detainees in the cell.
An eyewitness, the victims were slain inside an abandoned filling station near the police station.
It was gathered that the policemen lost their lives while trying to prevent the unknown gunmen from gaining entrance to the station.
“When other police officers on duty noticed an unusual movement of the unknown gunmen, the officers took to their heels. After freeing the detainees, the gunmen burnt down the police station,” he said.
Ikenga Tochukwu, Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, disclosed that he was yet to get full details of the incident.
