6-year-old and 6 others slaughtered in Kaduna onslaught

Unknown armed men were said to have raided Gora Gan village in the Zango-Kataf Local Government Council of Kaduna State and gruesomely slaughtered seven natives, among them a 70-year-old man and a six-year-old girl.

According to reports, four among those slain during the pogrom which occurred on Thursday night were members of the same family.

In the same vein, no fewer than 13  houses and two shops were set on fire by the gunmen who came in their large numbers and shot sporadically into the community around 8:00 pm West African Time. Numerous persons sustained various degrees of injuries during the inferno.

A statement from Kaduna State Government on Friday confirmed and condemned the attack. It added that the Government was informed of another sporadic shooting on the Fadan Kagoma-Kwoi Road on Friday in Jema, a Local Government Area.

The statement revealed that a driver was shot by the armed men but had been stabilized, while Governor Nasir El-Rufai had ordered an investigation into the matter to unravel the hooligans behind the rain of bullets.

The statement that was titled ‘KDSG’, condemns the attack on the Gora Gan community as El-Rufai directs instant relief intervention.

In the statement, Samuel Aruwan, the state Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, stated that security agents informed the government of the attack.

The Commissioner disclosed that as military officers repelled the hoodlums, they recovered 7 (seven) bodies of the victims of the devastating incident.

Mr. Aruwan, the commissioner listed the names of those murdered to involve: Peter Akaho (70), Ayuba Steven Sheyin (67), Jummai Ayuba (55), Ishaya Joel (35), Yakubu Saviour (14), Ayuba Goodluck (11) as well as Patience Ayuba, a 6-year-old girl.

The governor in the statement condemned the attack and directed aid workers to take inventory of damages done and immediately provide relief materials to the affected residents of the community.

“Security agencies, comprising the military and police, reported that Gora Gan community was attacked on several fronts, including the market area and houses stretching towards the Tudun Wada area of Gora Gan. Troops of Operation Safe Haven, Special Forces of the Defence Headquarters, and police personnel are trailing the attackers,” read the statement.
