At least ten persons have been confirmed killed by armed men believed to be Fulani herdsmen in Bornon Kurkur community, Bali Local Government Area Council of Taraba State.

The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Taraba State Command, David Misal while confirming the unfortunate incident, revealed that the attack happened today, adding that the situation has been brought under control.

The PPRO said that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ahmed Azare, has ordered for deployment of more police officers in the troubled area to comb the place as well as protect the victims.

In the same vein, no fewer than six people have been discovered dead between Jatau Kungana and Gazabu communities of the Bali Local Government Areas of the state.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Chairman of Bali Local Government Council, Mahmud Musa during an interview with Channels Television, an international mainstream media organization.

Musa stated that the crisis erupted in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area Council of Benue State which has a common boundary with Taraba State.

The LG Boss disclosed that some Fulani militia were chased from the area and they flee into Bali Local Government where they were partially repelled and the fracas escalated which resulted in the death of six persons in the axis.

Musa added that he has summoned the leadership of both Fulani herders and the Tivs ethnicity for dialogue and to put the ugly situation under control.

He insisted that calm has been restored and security agencies are manning the nooks and crannies of the Local Government Council to prevent any break of law and order. The Chairman, therefore, urged those using the opportunity to destroy or steal from houses to desist from such nefarious acts.

Taraba, a Northeast Nigeria state has been in the news lately for one communal clash or the other.

Gunmen suspected to be armed bandits, killed four persons in separate attacks in the Wukari Local Government Area of the state on April 15 this year.

The gunmen in their number first raided Tor-larshager a suburb community of Wukari Local Government Area killing a 70-year-old man, burning down his residential apartment at about 9:00 PM on Wednesday.

At about 2:00 am on Thursday the gunmen struck again at Rafinkada village killing three persons.

The senseless killing is coming barely one week after bandits killed three farmers in Assa village of Wukari local government area on the 7th of April and two Mobile police officers also killed at a checkpoint in Takum LGA on the 6th of April in Taraba state.

Observation by Channels Television shows that the farmers versus herders and farmers versus farmers crisis always resurface at the beginning of each year’s rainy season.
